THE NORTH COUNTRY

Washington, D.C.-based experimental pop band The North Country are excited to announce their new album The Future's Is All We Need out April 26 on Misra. The band has shared the new single and video "Be Here Be Now." The track is available on all streaming platforms for any playlist shares. The song's music video was made largely in-house, conceived by lead singer Andrew Grossman and edited by guitarist Jon Harmon. The pair also co-directed and co-produced the song's video.

On the song, the band's Andrew Grossman says:

“This song is a reminder to be present. 'Be Here Be Now' is a song about trying to stay in the moment in spite of all distractions. Screens throwing bright bold flashing colors at you, images of half naked people photoshopped to oblivion, and all of it is for the benefit of some faceless corporation."

The band's guitarist and video editor Jon Harmon adds:

"I feel like the aesthetic choices we made for the video do support the message of the song. The simplicity of the creative treatment feels resonant with being present and not overthinking or getting in your own way. The edit is pretty straightforward, especially compared to what we've become used to with TikTok being such a driving force for visual aesthetics in our culture. No split screen, crazy compositing, transitions, or even camera moves."

The North Country manages to take a heavy subject and deliver a song that’s sparkly, sweet, and danceable with a synth forward groove tied together by dual vocals from Margot Macdonald and Andrew Grossman. The band, who identify as “indie pop futurists," have delivered another catch song that will make you think.
"Be Here Be Now" follows the album's single "The Invisible Hand" which is out now on all streaming platforms. "The Invisible Hand" features the complex arrangements, danceable rhythms, and blistering political commentary emblematic of this one of a kind experimental pop band. With this track, the band is here to remind you there is no reason billionaires should be allowed to exist. Featuring the otherworldly vocal accompaniments from singers Margot Macdonald and Laurel Halsey, who sway between disembodied computers and ethereal priestesses, the band shines a light on the injustice of a world rigged for the 1%.

On the song Glide Magazine raved, "The tune is brimming with electro-pop energy with a touch of glam that will bring a smile to the faces of fans of acts like Talking Heads and David Bowie. Backed by a steady, danceable beat, the song features clever lyricism, colorful harmonies, and a bouncy, funkified sound all while making a statement about injustice."

An experimental pop collective fronted by Andrew Grossman, The North Country has earned a reputation for vibrant music and colorful, raucous shows. With complex arrangements, danceable rhythms, and layered harmonies, the band spins catchy indie pop earworms. The dramatic vocal accompaniments from singers Margot MacDonald and Laurel Halsey, whose voices mimic everything from ethereal priestesses to aloof robots, regularly draw cheers from delighted crowds at live shows. The North Country’s music deals with navigating digital fatigue, heartbreak, and blistering political commentary aimed squarely at the 1%. These indie pop futurists will make you think while you dance.
The North County will be performing on March 29 in Washington, D.C. at Culture House DC. The Multi-Sensory Meltdown with The North Country & ViRG will also include a VR music video presented by Ian McDermott. Tickets for the show are available HERE. Look for additional shows to be announced in the coming weeks.
